Hi! My name is Cathy Carey. I have lived in Lewisburg for over 29 years and I have been teaching at Kinderfolk for 25 years. I began teaching in the public schools in St. Louis, Missouri as an Elementary Music Teacher. After the birth of my first child, I taught in private schools and continued giving private piano lessons, which I began during my college years. I love teaching and I especially enjoy the enthusiasm and innocence of preschool age children. Through my piano studio I have taught students in the Lewisburg community who are now college graduates and starting their own families. Where has the time gone?
My husband David is a Biomedical Research Scientist and the director of the Weis Center for Research at the Geisinger Clinic in Danville. We have 3 daughters. Our daughter Colleen is a professional violist and married with a 4-year- old son, Lewie and a 1-year- old daughter, Margot. They live in Los Angeles, which is too far away!
Our daughter Erin is 30 and working as a floral designer.
Our daughter Meghan is 29 and has just accepted a position as Cello Professor at Austin Peay State University in Nashville.
I so enjoy teaching your children and I look forward to getting acquainted and learning new things together this year at Kinderfolk!
I have a B.A. Degree in Music from Susquehanna University. For 10 years I taught early childhood music classes through the Susquehanna University Music Preparatory Program. I worked with children from infants up to 1st graders and their families to instill basic musical concepts and an appreciation of music through singing, movement, games, and play. I work as the Elementary Music Camp Coordinator for The Central Oak Heights Retreat and Arts Center in West Milton. Previously l worked for the SUMCD Agency for 8 years with all ages of their program from infants up through school age summer camp. I am a mother of 3 children, past and future Kinderfolkers! I enjoy music of all types, the outdoors, and spending time with my family and friends.
I grew up in the Boston area and graduated from the University of Massachusetts-Boston with a degree in English Literature. I first came to Lewisburg in 2003 with my husband David, who is a Chemistry Professor at Bucknell, and immediately fell in love with the area. Over the years, I’ve met so many great people as I have become involved in the local community through volunteer work with the Public Library for Union County, the Lewisburg Arts Council, and Cub Scout Pack 3509.
Both of our children, Henry (12) and Holly (8), are Kinderfolk alum. My husband and I really appreciated how well the program prepared our kids for school that when the opportunity arose to become a part of the Kinderfolk family, I jumped at the chance.
